Film fest eyes April date
The Bermuda International Film Festival will run from April 14 until April 20, the soon-to-be Festival director has announced.
Aideen Ratteray-Pryse, who assumes the post in December, said: "Although the dates have not been officially announced, films have already started to pour in.
"The local call for entries officially kicks off today and we hope to see several local submissions.
"There has been lots of interest in the Film Festival ever since the announcement this summer.
"The Department of Tourism has come on board with a significant sponsorship contribution, as well as several other local companies.
"We are pleased that the local community has embraced the festival as a significant event on the Bermudian cultural and social calendar.'' Changes made to the programme include additional viewing times in the form of matinees and the possible amendment of the award scheme to include a category for documentaries.
Mrs. Ratteray-Pryse added: "Much of the organisational work has been going on over the summer and now we are ready to get the show on the road.
"Our focus this year is on promoting the film overseas to film industry professionals as well as film aficionados.
"With the Department of Tourism's marketing arm we know we can make a success of it.'' Along with a new director, the Festival has new offices also as it has relocated to the corner of Spurling Hill and East Broadway in the Broadway House building.
