Organisers -- the World AIDS Day 1993 committee -- had been hoping for up to 100.

It was to have been the culmination of a week of events to highlight AIDS.

"Obviously we are a little disappointed,'' said one organiser.

She pointed out, however, the procession around Hamilton had been planned for last Wednesday.

But it was rescheduled because of last week's rainfall.

"I think we would have had 100 people on Wednesday. On Sundays people prefer to stay at home.'' Last night's event kicked off at about 7 p.m. at Victoria Park.

Among those there were Mr. Martin Smith, from the Allan Smith Foundation, which was set up in memory of his son who died from AIDS. Several children also came along with parents.

The marchers carried a banner with the message: "Fight AIDS, Not People with AIDS''.

They also sang the song, "No Man Is An Island'', before setting off around the City.
