18-10 in an entertaining rugby game at Nationals on New Year's Day.

Last year, Renegades won this annual fixture with the last kick of the game and with the Rest XV more than keen to make up for that defeat, a hard-fought encounter was on the cards.

The Rest took the initiative from the outset with some good running from their full back Danny McGavern. However, with some strong defending it was Renegades who took the lead in the 16th minute with a 35-yard penalty kick from Michael Kane.

That lead proved to be short-lived and with the Rest exerting continuous pressure, they were rewarded when Ben Davis went over in the corner to give them a 5-3 half-time advantage.

In the second half, Renegades started to control more phases of the game and with Tommy Steinhoff taking some good catches in the lineout, the 'Gades backline started to make telling incursions into Rest territory.

Roman Kane, who had been subject to a couple of high tackles in the first half, started to link well with his scrum-half Ryan Sommerville and made a number of telling breaks as he combined with his centres to set up some good attacking situations.

However, resolute defence from the Rest left Renegades with just a penalty by Arno Hanekom for a lead of 6-5.

Midway through the second half a good drive from Renegades forwards Ian and Brian Mutch resulted in a Chris Garland try which was converted by Hanekom and Renegades went further ahead when Adrian Beasley drove over in the corner following some good forward play for an 18-5 lead.

Justin Kendall reduced the lead following a fine backline movement, scoring in the corner for the final points of the game.
