Lightbourne celebrates extension with a goal
contract at Scarborough by scoring his first goal for the club in Saturday's thrilling 3-2 win at Crewe Alexandra.
Lightbourne, called in by manager Ray McHale and offered a one-year extension on his six-month contract last week, repaid the faith the manager has shown in him by scoring his team's second goal midway through the first half on Saturday.
"We were losing 1-0 and then made it 1-1 before I scored the second goal midway through the first half,'' explained Lightbourne last night. "They scored again with their first attack in the second half to make it 2-2 and then we scored in the 90th minute.
The win moves Scarborough to fourth, 10 points out of second place but with three games in hand.
"My goal came from a header after the ball deflected off the crossbar. I was pleased to get that goal. I've been starting in the last three or four games and have been playing well but haven't been scoring.'' Lightbourne was substituted in the last 10 minutes after taking a knock on his ankle.
The new contract, Lightbourne admits, eases the worry of his immediate future.
"I gladly took it,'' he explained. "So now I can at least come home in the summer and relax and not worry about that.'' Scarborough are at home to Hereford, the team of Meshach Wade and Kentoine Jennings, this Saturday.
