Social inquiry report ordered for woman possessing drug equipment

A social inquiry report was yesterday ordered in Magistrates' Court on a 27-year-old Pembroke woman who admitted possessing drug equipment.

Verdelle Tucker, of Princess Street, pleaded guilty to possessing a bottle for use in connection with drugs.

Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy said Police visited Old Slip Lane off Pitts Bay Road, Pembroke, around 1.30 p.m. on June 1 as a result of information received.

When they arrived, he said, they saw Tucker quickly moving away from the area.

Insp. Duffy said as Police told Tucker she would be searched, she took a white plastic bag out of her purse and handed the purse to Police. Tucker told Police they could not look in the plastic bag because it contained private items.

Police found the bottle, which had traces of free-base cocaine, in the plastic bag.

Tucker has no previous convictions.

Magistrate the Wor. John Judge said:"There seems to be a drug problem here.

"I'll order a social inquiry report to see if rehabilitation is required and if it will be effective''.

He adjourned sentencing to September 10 when the report is expected to be completed.

Tucker was released on $300 bail.
