Under near-perfect conditions, with temperatures in the 80-degree range and winds in the eight-to-12-knot range, the Bermudian was second in both races behind American legend Dennis Connor, who Bromby trails by two-and-a-half points entering today's set of races.

"We had pretty good starts to both races,'' said Bromby, who has Lee White and Clive Thatcher along as crew. "Dennis had brand new sails and that is making a difference.

"He's getting to the marks just a bit quicker, but we've been close throughout all the races.'' Connor won the first outing by five and six boat-lengths, but an intriguing tacking battle ensued on the last two weather legs in the second. The result was the same as the American squeezed home by three lengths.

"We're happy,'' added Bromby.

Bromby is familiar with the sea conditions and weather patterns, having competed numerous times in the area.

Tied for third place in the standings on eight points are Americans Bob Vickery and Henry Springler, the latter being a past winner of International Race Week in Bermuda.
