Andre Simmons, of Curving Avenue, Pembroke, pleaded not guilty and elected to have his case heard in the Supreme Court when he appeared without a lawyer before Magistrate Edward King.

Simmons is alleged to have unlawfully assaulted Derek Butterfield on September 19 of last year in Pembroke and to have been in possession of an offensive weapon, namely a piece of metal, at the same time and place.

He was released on $2,000 bail with a like surety and told to stay away from Mr. Butterfield. Simmons was ordered to return to court on April 20.

MAN DENIES CANNABIS POSSESSION CTS Man denies cannabis possession Alleged drug possession landed a 24-year-old Southampton man in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Stephen Maughn, of Colony Valley, pleaded not guilty to possession of cannabis in Southampton on January 7 and elected to have his matter heard in the Supreme Court.

Maughn, who was represented by lawyer Tyrone Chin, was released on $2,000 bail with a like surety and was ordered to return to court on April 20.

DEVONSHIRE MAN REQUESTS TRIAL CTS Devonshire man requests trial Roderick George Astwood yesterday pleaded not guilty in Magistrates' Court to one count each of drug possession and obstruction.

The Hermitage Road, Devonshire man, denied possession of diamorphine, also known as heroin, on December 30 of last year in Pembroke. He also denied intentionally obstructing a Police officer at the same time and place.

Astwood, 41, elected a Magistrates' Court trial and Magistrate Edward King set the matter down for trial on July 17.

UNLAWFUL ASSAULT DENIED BY WOMAN CTS Unlawful assault denied by woman A 37-year-old Hamilton Parish woman yesterday denied that she unlawfully assaulted another woman in Hamilton Parish on January 5 of this year.

North Shore Road resident Collene Loretta Bean pleaded not guilty to the charge in Magistrates' Court and elected a summary trial.

Magistrate Edward King set the matter down to be heard on June 9.
