terminal after she was nearly knocked over by two girls fighting.

The furious 43-year-old woman claimed yesterday's episode was the latest in a string of upsetting incidents at the terminal.

She said she had been spat at, abused and yesterday nearly skittled over by the unruly schoolchildren.

Residents and visitors were running a gauntlet to get to buses and get home, she added, because of trouble at the bus stop -- always around 4 p.m. The woman asked not to be named because she uses the bus terminal four days a week to return home from work.

"I was trying to get on the bus but there was a lot of children in my way,'' she said. "I asked them to move and they started to move out of the way.

"Just as I was about to get on the bus a fight broke out between two girls.

They were both about 14 or 15. One of them struck the other who was sitting down.

"It was all happening right in front of me and I was nearly knocked over while they were fighting.'' The woman said that it took a while for her to calm down after the frightening incident. "I got home and called the Police to report the incident. It was very upsetting.

"It is not the first time that this has happened. On one occasion a girl spat at me for no reason at all.'' Yesterday's was the latest in a number of complaints about the behaviour of children at the Hamilton terminal.

The woman added: "It has been like this for the seven months I have been catching the bus. It is quite frightening because there are no Policemen around.

"After today's incident I asked the bus driver why he did not complain to the Police. He said they did not take any notice of complaints.

"These are not small children. Some of them are quite large and they tend to stand on all the walkways so that people cannot get past them.'' Demanding some sort of action, she said: "There should be a Police presence all the time these children are there. They would see the type of behaviour that goes on.'' Police Public Relations Officer Sgt. John Dale said: "We had a complaint about children misbehaving and the woman has been advised. Police will be paying their usual attention to the bus terminal.''
