The following is a listing of Government regulations governing the use of radios, amplifiers, musical instruments, televisions or any type of sound equipment: Between midnight and 6 a.m., unless the Commissioner of Police has issued a permit, noise must not be loud enough to disturb or annoy nearby residents.
The Summary Offences Amendment Act (1989) specifically states that any person who "(i) operates, or causes or allows to be operated, any amplifier or loud speaker so as to amplify the sound made by the playing of any musical instrument or by the human voice or ... any other sound; or (ii) plays or operates, or causes or allows the playing or operation of, any gramophone, wireless set, television set, tape cassette player or other device designed or adapted for the transmission of sound, in such a manner as, by reason of the causing of noise, to disturb or annoy any person dwelling in the vicinity, shall be guilty of an offence against this Act.'' During the day, from 6 a.m. to midnight, noise from the same sources becomes noise pollution if it can be heard more than one hundred feet away from the source of the sound and causes annoyance to two or more people, and if the disturbance is deemed "unreasonable in all the circumstances of the case.'' The law applies everywhere, on the water as well as on land.
