Chicken are planning a thorough re-training of staff.

Company head Donald Lines told The Royal Gazette yesterday that plans are in the works for a specialist in fast food franchise service to give special training to all employees.

The trainer is expected to stay for a few months to carry out the programme.

"Service is one of our biggest problems,'' Mr. Lines admitted.

"Customers often complain because they want fast service and we are supposed to be offering that, but Bermuda is not noted for fast service.

"We will be upgrading the skills of our workers and getting more specialist managers.'' Efforts to make the facility more "amenable for staff'' are also underway, with Mr. Lines pointing out they will be throwing out pizza ovens still around from the aborted pizza business several years ago.

"We will be dumping them,'' he said "and simply making the kitchen more amenable for staff.'' Explaining the recent stock re-purchase, Mr. Lines said it happened because stock prices were "attractive to the company'' and because they had an excess of funds.

"Our plans are to continue to develop the business,'' he said. "In the long run we may open more branches but that would be way down the road.'' Mr. Lines said that next year the owners plan to concentrate on "making management and operational improvements''.
