a Sandys man who appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Terrance Nicholas Thomas, 22, of Cricket Lane, pleaded guilty to assaulting a Police officer after he became enraged that he had been stopped for driving too close and with his headlights on high beam.

Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, told Senior Magistrate, the Wor. Will Francis that at 10.45 p.m. on May 9, Thomas was travelling behind a Police car on Somerset Road. The officers pulled over to let a tailgating driver pass. When they stopped Thomas at the Somerset Police station to warn him, he began to shout at them, and pushed an officer out of his way. He then punched the officer in the chest.

Thomas told Mr. Francis: "I felt that I was being harassed. I want respect.'' Mr. Francis told Thomas that the Police had the right to stop drivers at any time, and that he wished they would do it more often.

"Many times I feel like stopping (bad drivers) myself. If someone had driven down the road without insurance or without a licence, and then ran you down and crippled you, wouldn't you have wanted the Police to have perhaps checked them before they had hurt you?'' Thomas was fined $100.
