Carr, Dupuy set to clash again
Amateur Match Play Golf Championship.
But they will meet in the quarter-finals.
Drawn in the same bracket earlier in the week, the form chart held true when both won their second round matches yesterday to set up a rematch this morning starting at 8.08 a.m.
The winner advances into the semi-finals this afternoon at Mid Ocean Club, with the final slated for Saturday.
Carr, who beat Dupuy on the first extra hole for last year's title, beat Gary Carr 5 and 4 yesterday, while Dupuy kept pace with a 4 and 3 win over Ian Page.
In Wednesday's first round, Carr barely got past Douglas Morris one-up.
Another of the favourites heading into the tournament also advanced. Blake Marshall won 4 and 3 over Arthur Jones and will meet Eddie Marshall in the quarter-finals today. Eddie Marshall surprised three-time champion Dick Horne of the US yesterday, one-up.
Also knocked out of the championship flight was Bermuda youngster Aaron James, a one-up loser to another teenager, Rory Scrymgeour of Canada.
Scrymgeour meets Gunnar Bennett today.
In the other quarter-final, Cy Kilgore, a three and two winner over Bermuda veteran Howard DeSilva, takes on Bill Jenks who ousted Steve Plaskon five and four.
In yesterday's ladies semi-finals, a former champion and Bermuda's best hope were both knocked out.
Lisa McGill, herself a former champ, dumped three-time winner Reggie Parker 5 and 3 while Bermudian Madeline Joell lost one-up to Lee Ann Vogel. McGill and Vogel meet in the final today. Tee-off time is 7.54 a.m.
The consolation final features Bermuda's Juliana Jack against Caroline Creekmore.
