Currently there are 580 million people in the world who are over the age of 60; In just twenty years time experts estimate that there could be one billion people over the age of 60; In 1990, about 31 million Americans were 65 years of age and older and that number is expected to reach approximately 75 million by the year 2040; and In the US, people aged 85 and older will be the fastest growing segment of the population by the year 2030.
