Thieves hit BLTA for $5,000
$5,000 which had been earmarked for the junior programme.
The money was gained through the association's Grass Roots camps this past summer.
Administrator of the association, Mr. Joseph Morley said that two weeks ago he noticed the door to the office was closed but unlocked.
"I did not notice anything missing. I went to process the cheques and discovered that the cheques and cash were gone,'' Mr. Morley said.
He added that there was approximately $4,000 in cheques and $1,000 in cash which came from payments that parents made for children attending the BLTA programmes.
"The money was earmarked for junior development,'' he said.
However, he said, a few of the cheques were returned to him in a bag left outside his house.
"I am making a plea to whoever took the cheques to bring them back to the BLTA office on Burnaby Street. They are of no use to them. Each cheque was made out to BLTA and was signed by whoever issued them,'' Mr. Morley said.
He added that he had written to each parent asking them to put a stop on their cheques.
If anyone knows where the cheques are or have found them they can mail them in to the BLTA HM341 Hamilton HMBX or call Mr. Morley at 296-0834.
