The first baby to be born in 1998 was a new daughter for Janet and Sean Weaver.

The baby girl made her entrance at 21 minutes past midnight on January 1, weighing in at 4 pounds and 14 ounces.

Just an hour and a half later, Nancy Wadson of Southampton gave birth to seven pound two ounce Daniel Thomas.

And the final arrival of the day came just before 7 p.m. when a son for Michelle Talbot and Prince Dill was born, weighing in at six pounds and six ounces.

All three mums and their infants are said to be doing well, although Mrs.

Weaver was not up to having her photograph taken.

Mrs. Wadson, 39, who is married to farmer Tom Wadson, was giving birth for the first time. She endured a 30-hour long labour before her son decided to make an appearance, although he was not due to be born until today.

"It was hard work and painful to a degree but it was all worth it,'' Mrs.

Wadson said.

"Daniel's just great.''
