Progressive Labour Party leader Mr. Frederick Wade will submit a second name for the chairmanship of the Public Services Commission.

His submission, which could be made today or Monday, follows the surprise withdrawal of his first candidate, Mr. Gladstone (Tab) Bassett.

Mr. Bassett withdrew his name after the PLP put him forward to succeed Mrs.

Jeanette Cannonier, whose five-year term expires in the new year.

Mr. Bassett issued a statement on Wednesday saying he had never expressed interest in the post to Mr. Wade.

But yesterday Mr. Wade said "that's not necessarily true''.

"I approached him and he said `Yes','' Mr. Wade said. "Otherwise, I wouldn't have put his name forward.'' Mr. Wade said the exchange occurred in front of another menber of the Boundaries Commission, on which Mr. Bassett is currently serving.

Mr. Wade said he thought Mr. Bassett changed his mind after a telephone conversation with the Premier.

The PLP put forward Mr. Bassett's name to jog the Premier into consulting with Mr. Wade on the upcoming appointment.

The PLP has said Mrs. Cannonier's 15 years heading the Commission has been long enough.
