Logie junior helps tourists

The Villagers Pacesetters Social and Athletic Club of New York ended their tour of Bermuda on a winning note after having two of their matches rained off.

They beat Jamaica Association at Sea Breeze Oval by 66 runs in a 25-over match on Sunday, with the help of Gus Logie's son Arron who took two-wickets after the Brooklyn tourists asked him to guest.

Villagers batted first and scored 182 for three with Nicholas Standford scoring 69 and Melroy Kingston hitting 54. Chris Dayle and Neil Anglin took a wicket a piece for Jamaican Association.

In reply Association totalled 116 all out from 22 overs with Ricky Hoyt top scoring with 58.

Nicholas Standford took three for 16, Junior Murray two for two, Keith Song two for six and Arron Logie two for 15.

Friday's match against Police R.C. and Saturday's cup match against Western Stars SC for the Pitter, Ratteray, Butler, Wilkin and Thompson Trophy were both cancelled due to showers.

Since the early 1970s a New York touring team has visited the Island for a series of matches, with Western Stars usually returning the following summer. This year's outfit contained a number of former Jamaican players.

Western Stars and Jamaica Association plan to visit New York in next summer to play Villagers Pacesetters Social and Athletic Club.
