A uniform competition involving the Island's primary school students gets underway this evening.

The organisers Prospect Primary Parent Teachers Association (PTA) have invited all primary students to attend and take part in the event.

The children have been challenged: Do you have the skills to create the best uniform on the Island? And, if you had your way, how would you go to school everyday? Their designs must include a tie in order to enter the competition.

PTA president Michelle Ming said that the purpose of the Island-wide Uniform Competition 2007 is to build relationships among primary and M1 students, as well as to raise funds for Prospect Primary School.

"The idea of the Uniform Competition is to encourage Bermudian young people to develop their own sense of style, while creating original school uniforms," she said.

"The most original uniform will win an exciting prize!"

Stylebermuda.com is also donating all the prizes for the Uniform Competition.

However, Ms Ming added that the excitement does not stop with the uniform competition, as there will also be a Playstation III competition, various board game tournaments, a movie and many more activities at the event which will run from 6.30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

"A DJ will keep the party going with a dance competition as well," she said.

"Lower level school children from P1 to P3 have not been left out as they will have the Lower School Party Station dedicated to them, with arts and crafts, movies and games.

"Another strong feature at the event is the 'Deal or No Deal' game.

"Students will have the opportunity to win exciting prizes through a junior rendition of the popular television game show.

"Food, snacks, juices and water will be on sale as well as various novelties."

All schoolchildren aged between four and 11 are invited.

There is an entrance fee of $5 with food and novelty items starting at $1.50.

Parents are being advised that if they are late collecting their children, i.e. after 9.30 p.m., a penalty fee of $1 per minute will apply and will be payable upon pick up.
