charges, including assault and unlawful damage.

Earlston and Rodre Wilson, both of South Shore Road, Southampton, pleaded guilty to the charges, but told Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King the fight arose because a third man had stolen from them.

Crown counsel Lesley Basden explained Police attended the home of the two men with carpenter Sinclair Tony Bean around 8.30 a.m. on June 16.

Mr. Bean reportedly told Police that the Wilson brothers refused to return his trade tools.

But 31-year-old Earlston Wilson and 20-year-old Rodre Wilson quickly launched into an attack on Mr. Bean as he was sitting inside the Police car.

In the ensuing melee, Mr. Bean suffered a broken nose, a female Police officer was struck twice in the face as she tried to intervene, and the car's passenger window was smashed.

Yesterday, Earlston Wilson admitted withholding Mr. Bean's tools, but said the man had stolen from him.

He told Mr. King he had "given Mr. Bean a chance'' by employing him, but that Mr. Bean had taken some $500 of supply money.

"I was holding on to his tools so that he could work off the money,'' he said.

Mr. King fined the two men $250 each for threatening behaviour. He also ordered Earlston Wilson to pay $400 for the broken car window -- $160 of which is to be given to the Bermuda Government. He is also due to appear for mention on August 21 for assaulting a Police officer.

Rodre Wilson was fined $750 for causing grievous bodily harm to Mr. Bean, and $250 for obstructing a Police officer.
