Banks are big movers
The banking sector was the place to be on the Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index (BSX) yesterday.
Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd. experienced a 25 cent (2.1 percent) increase in its share price to close up at $12, with 1,000 shares traded.
Meanwhile, Butterfield Bank suffered a 10 cent (0.5 percent) loss in its share value to finish on $20.60, as 11,326 shares changed hands during the day.
Insurers BF&M Ltd. boosted their share price of $19 by 75 cents (4.1 percent), with 5,100 shares traded, while BELCO Holdings Ltd. saw their share value go into reverse, slipping 50 cents (2.4 percent) to close at $20. They traded 4,400 shares.
Overall the Index finished down at 5,130.70, representing a change of 13.31 points (0.26 percent).
The BSX Insurance Index, however, enjoyed a good day's trading with a 1.64 percent rise in value to close on 1,221.83.
