Tourism will host Bermuda Night at Shea Stadium

May 12 will be "Bermuda Night" at the Shea Stadium, when the New York Mets baseball team play the Washington Nationals.

The event is part of a $500,000 partnership deal struck with the Mets by the Bermuda Department of Tourism.

It will be attended by 12 winners of a contest organised by the Department, which asked locals to send photographs proving they are true fans with "home team spirit" for the Mets.

Premier and Tourism Minister Ewart Brown will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on the night.

He'll also be interviewed during the game by SNY — the SportsNet New York television station — to promote tourism.

Around 48,000 people attend each game played by the Mets, who are promoting Bermuda as their "official" destination this season.
