Tucker urges Bean to join the national fold
Coach Keith Tucker is urging Ralph Bean to commit to the national team after watching the North Village talisman's Dudley Eve hat-trick heroics from the stands.
Bean was Devonshire Cougars' chief tormentor during last weekend's final at the National Sports Centre and is thought to be considering an international return after missing the St. Kitts and Nevis friendly matches due to personal reasons.
Tucker is a known admirer of Bean and would welcome him into the fold with open arms as he plots Bermuda's passage past the Cayman Islands in the World Cup qualifiers.
"I would very much like Ralph to be part of the national team," said Tucker. "He has ball handling ability, knowledge of attacking the goal and is also a team player.
"I believe he will return to training soon and I look forward to having him available - we want the best players in Bermuda to play for Bermuda." Bean is one of a number of local leading lights yet to commit to Tucker's regime along with Village team-mates Keith Jennings and Jemeiko Jennings, who also caught the eye of the former Somerset Trojan during the New Year's Day final.
"We're still looking for the best players out there, but I'm also happy to work with what I've got," said Tucker. I'm excited about the challenges ahead but I'm particularly looking to strengthen our defensive department.
"Keith (Jennings) has told me he will be coming to training and there seems to be a lot of talent on that North Village team. As I've said before if someone thinks they're good enough, they should come and show it."
Speaking after his scintillating Dudley Eve display Bean said he could play some part in Bermuda's World Cup qualifying campaign.
"At the moment I'm playing things by ear regarding the national team," he said. "I wasn't involved against St. Kitts and Nevis due to personal reasons and I know I would have to work very hard to regain a place in the team. But I've not ruled out being part of the World Cup qualifiers."
