Domestic dispute leads to fine

A 32-year-old St. George's man pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to wilfully resisting arrest and obstructing Police officers when they responded to a domestic dispute involving his girlfriend.

Crown counsel Larissa Burgess told the court that on September 9, at 6.25 p.m., officers attempted to speak with Kevon Edwin Smith, 32, at his residence, who obstructed their investigation by behaving in a threatening manner and cursing them.

At one point, while officers where speaking to Smith, of Old Military Road, he shouted to his girlfriend: "I haven't done f***s so what the f**k you call the Police for!"

Despite being warned by Police to calm down or face arrest, he continued, "You cannot arrest me, I have not done f***s," while waving his hands in the air in a threatening manner.

He was immediately placed under arrest and while being transported to the Police car, Smith placed his feet on the doors, attempting to thrust himself away and at one point and he threatened to head-butt an officer.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Smith $1,000 for both offences with 30 days in prison by default.
