Teenager hit out at Police for not taking her home

A teenager launched into a tirade of profanities at Police officers after they refused to give her a ride home to Dockyard.

Chelsa Hollis, 17, of Hillview Lane, Warwick, pleaded guilty to using offensive words to the officers in Church Street, Hamilton, on April 15, assaulting a female Police officer in the execution of her duties and violently resisting arrest.

Senior Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney told Magistrates' Court yesterday that the Police were patrolling near the bus terminal around 10.50 p.m when they heard a female voice yell "Police, Police!"

They immediately reversed their car to attend the suspicious matter, at which point they were approached by Hollis, who asked for a lift home.

They refused, but offered to call her a taxi.

According to Mr. Mahoney, Hollis yelled: "This is why I hate the f****** Police, you're all pigs, you're supposed to help me."

The officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol.

Hollis continued to yell and swear, saying: "You're supposed to help me, what if I got raped, you'd like that wouldn't you?"

The Police attempted to calm her down and told her they were going to take her to the Police station to call someone to pick her up.

Hollis refused to comply and became aggressive towards the officers. As they were attempting to detain her, she ran to a signpost and wrapped her arms around it.

She began kicking and struggling and hit one of the officers below her eye, causing her to suffer swelling.

Eventually, she was arrested and taken to the station where she was charged and bailed.

Hollis, who is unemployed and has no previous convictions, told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo: "I was not intoxicated. I was going through something in my life at that time although it's no excuse for how I was behaving."

Mr. Tokunbo ordered a background report on Hollis before he sentences her on June 5.

He granted her $2,000 bail until that date.
