Police smelled cannabis in car

A Pembroke man was arrested for possession of cannabis and cocaine when he was pulled over after officers smelled cannabis burning in his car.

Milton Ming of Deep Bay Lane pleaded guilty to one count each of the possession of the controlled drug cannabis and the controlled drug cocaine yesterday in Magistrates' Court.

The court heard from Senior Crown counsel Paula Tyndale that officers were conducting speed checks on Two Way Lane when they smelled cannabis burning from a car travelling west on Parsons Road.

The 44-year-old was pulled over and asked if he had any illegal drugs in the car. He said no but was searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

During the search, officers found a brown paper twist containing plant-like material, a burned homemade paper cigarette and a small white rocklike substance.

The items were sealed and taken to the Government analyst where they were found to be 2.97 grams of cannabis and 0.07 grams of cocaine.

Ming was fined $400 for the cannabis and $600 for the cocaine by Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo to be paid that day.
