Sponsors stick with Derby

Local firm Appleby Hunter Bailhache have agreed to continue their title sponsorship of the Bermuda May 24 Marathon Derby, offering $35,000 for the organisation of the race and prize money.

The event, one of the world’s longest-established annual road races, will be held for the 97th time this year.

“We are extremely grateful for Appleby’s continued support. Their assistance over the past four years has been invaluable as they fully understand and appreciate the importance of this event,”said Gina Tucker, Bermuda Marathon Derby president.

“We have fantastic plans for the 2007 Marathon Derby. Our goal is to rejuvenate the race by increasing runner participation while also increasing community involvement and spirit towards the event. We will unveil our exciting plans over the next few weeks.”

Appleby Managing Partner, Shaun A. Morris, said: “It has been a pleasure to support the marathon committee members in their endeavours. We are delighted to provide financial assistance and other support for an event that is undoubtedly an integral part of our Bermuda heritage.”
