Khano Smith ended his barren spell in front of goal with a 25-yard rocket in the final minute of New England Revolution's 4-2 victory over FC Dallas at Gillette Stadium.

Smith, who also had an assist, latched on to a loose clearance down the left wing before unleashing a venous strike to beat Dallas keeper Dario Sala at his near post. Playing under the direction of Paul Mariner while head coach Steve Nicol served a one-game suspension, Revs took the lead on 29 minutes when Pat Noonan flicked a shot past keeper Sala. Skipper Steve Ralston played a short pass out to Bermudian Smith whose first-time cross found Noonan to score with the outside of his boot.

But the lead was short-lived with Dallas equalising in the 35th minute when Rev's keeper Matt Reis misjudged Carlos Ruiz's header. The second period saw Revs pick up play with Noonan scoring again on 65 minutes, before Ralston added another on 78 when he tapped in the rebound of his own blocked shot. Ruiz cut the host's lead in the 84th minute heading home a Dominic Oduro cross.

But in the final minute Smith struck to break his scoring duck when an interception by Dallas' defence fell into his path 25-yards out.

Smith said his confidence grew throughout the match and was thrilled to finally score.

"(Steve) Ralston, Shalrie (Joseph), Jeff (Larentowicz), Avery (John) did a good job getting the ball to me a lot. My confidence just kept growing and growing. Stevie (Nicol) gets on me a lot for going outside and then going inside too much so I've been working on that a lot.

"I pushed Jay (Heaps) aside when I scored because I wanted to celebrate. It took me 23 games to get on the score sheet."

Paul Mariner added: "We've worked very, very hard in training this week, emphasising that we need to get the ball in out wide to Steve (Ralston) and Khano (Smith) and it just seemed like they both did exceptionally well tonight."

The Revs return to action on Saturday when they travel to face the New York Red Bulls at Giants Stadium.
