Jones wins at Florida Junior Player Tour

Nick Jones came from five shots back to lift the Florida Junior Player Tour senior boys title at the Sebastian Golf and Country Club in the Sunshine State on Sunday.

And he capped off a superb weekend of golf in grand style with the last throw of the dice by rolling in an 18-foot birdie at the par four 18th to finish the 36-hole event at one-under-par 71.

"I am very pleased with the way I'm hitting the ball at the moment, but the greens were not in very good shape," he said.

Jones carded a three-over-par 75 during Saturday's opening round after struggling to find the right line with the putter.

"My putting let me down on the first day but on the second I took a little more time to read the putts and it paid off," he added. "All the players had trouble with the greens which meant that the leaders shot higher on the second day. "I wasn't playing with the leaders on the last day, which also helped take some of the pressure off me."

Jones (146) also produced the day's longest drive, a massive 325 yard blast off the tee, just for added measure.

Finishing two shots back in second was Marcelo Huarte (148) followed by Jaime Rodgriguez (149) in third respectively. Having now gained a bit of momentum, Jones will look to pick up where he left off in his personal bid to lower his International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) ranking when he tees off at the Bent Tree Country Club in Florida next month accompanied by father Eardley Jones.

"I'm feeling confident going into the next IJGT event because of the way I'm hitting the ball," he said, adding: "These are all ranked events and now that I have broken the 1,000 mark in the rankings I want to continue to get my ranking down."
