HIV positive man admits unprotected sex charge
A man with HIV who had sex with a woman without telling her of his condition has pleaded guilty to sexual assault.
According to the charge against Gary Delton Williams, 32, he knew he had HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) when he did a sexual act "capable of transferring bodily fluid" at some point between October 1 2007 and February 20 this year. However, he did not inform the woman of his condition.
No further details of the offence were given during his brief appearance at Supreme Court yesterday.
However, Crown counsel Nicole Smith said afterwards that the woman – who cannot be identified for legal reasons – has not tested positive for HIV thus far.
Pre-sentence reports were ordered by Puisne Judge Norma Wade-Miller. Williams, of no fixed address, was remanded into custody until May 1, when a sentence date will be set.
