NEW YORK (Reuters) - American left-hander Steve Flesch overcame a rocky start and coasted to a two-stroke victory over compatriot Michael Allen at the Turning Point Championship in Verona, New York yesterday.

Flesch, who began the day with a four-shot lead, bogeyed his first two holes in breezy conditions at 7,482-yard Atunyote Golf Club course, but bounced back for one-over 73 and an 18-under-par 270 total.

Allen shot a four-under-par 68 to claim second place at 272, one stroke better than Australian John Senden (67) and American John Mallinger (68).

It was the second win in as many months for 40-year-old Flesch, who also won the Reno-Tahoe event.

"I've learned to be more patient and believe in myself more than I did," Flesch told reporters after his victory in the opener of the US Tour's seven-event Fall Series.

"I was pretty shaky in the beginning. I was just kind of hyped up, I got kind of fast. But I fought through it and hung in there.

"The last six weeks have been fantastic. I'm thrilled to death," added Flesch, who led by as many as five strokes in the final round.

Tied for fifth at 14 under par, four strokes off the pace, were Australian Mathew Goggin (69), Sweden's Carl Pettersson (73) and Americans Tommy Armour III (68), Charley Hoffman (69) and Parker McLachlin (71).
