Venues switched for safety reasons
The Bermuda Football Association (BFA) has moved all remaining Dudley Eve fixtures to the National Sports Centre in a bid to increase safety following a spate of gang violence over the holiday season.
A double shooting on Boxing Day in Camp Hill, Southampton, left one man dead and another seriously injured, while another man was gunned down in Pembroke on Christmas Day.
While neither incident is football-related the BFA has deemed it appropriate to switch all matches to a more secure venue after discussing their safety concerns with Police.
Those clubs still involved in the Dudley Eve have been informed of the changes with PHC now taking on Dandy Town at the NSC tonight. All kick-off times and concessions remain the same. Larry Mussenden, BFA president, stressed there was no connection between the shootings and the football community.
"The BFA and Bermuda Police Service have held dialogue regarding the appropriate action to be taken in order to safeguard the continuation of the remaining matches without incident," he said.
"The BFA is very concerned with the level of violent activity taking place in Bermuda. We recognise that football is an important meeting ground and a very important activity in the Bermuda sporting life. Therefore, we make a plea to everyone attending football games to do so in the spirit of peace."
Mussenden said unfortunately clubs would not receive the revenue they would have from concessions and bar takings, while the BFA would also incur a loss by hosting the fixtures at the NSC. He added there was no price on maintaining the safety of supporters.
