Brangman summoned back to PAC tomorrow
A committee probing allegations about Bermuda College’s finances has called on the author to answer further questions.
The Royal Gazette revealed last month how a document compiled by former College Board chairman Nalton Brangman alleged the college spent public money without complying with Government instructions.
The report, which was leaked to this newspaper, claimed college President Charles Green enjoyed perks not approved by the board including membership of the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and payment of his telephone and electricity bills.
It said renovations to his grace-and-favour home at the college’s Stonington Campus were paid for without the transactions being properly documented by the board. Dr. Green denies any wrongdoing.
Mr. Brangman handed over his findings to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) last month — days after being sacked from his post by the then Education Minister Neletha Butterfield.
He has already met with the committee, and according to sources it has asked him to give further evidence on matters including Dr. Green’s expenses claims when it meets tomorrow.
It is understood that a representative from the College has also been summoned.
PAC chairman Patricia Gordon Pamplin confirmed that Mr. Brangman had been asked to attend to give further evidence along with two or three others.
She declined to comment on who the others were. She added that PAC’s findings are set to be tabled in the House of Assembly within the next fortnight, after final information has been collated.
Mr. Brangman has refused to discuss his investigation until the PAC makes the results public, but confirmed that he had been asked to speak to the committee tomorrow.
