BFA may reprimand coach Best
Bermuda Football Association (BFA) have not ruled out the possibility of reprimanding technical committee member Clyde Best for publicly slamming local football's governing body.
In his weekly Mid-Ocean News column, published September 28, a disgruntled Best complained: "I am unhapy with some of the things going on in local football right now and really urge all the clubs in Bermuda to pay attention to what is happening."
The former West Ham striker accused BFA executives of serving their own interests rather than the sport's — and urged clubs to take matters into their own hands by calling for a properly constituted special meeting.
"The people at the BFA work for you," the association's former technical director added. "You can vote them in and can vote them out.
"The game here has received a lot of money from Government and some things are not right."
When contacted yesterday BFA president Larry Mussenden agreed to issue a statement responding to Best's recent criticism — but failed to deliver.
The former Bermuda Regiment officer, however, did not rule out the possibility of imposing sanctions against the North Village assistant coach for speaking out against the administration he serves.
Meanwhile, The Royal Gazette can confirm Bermuda Referees Association (BRA) held an emergency meeting last week over an ongoing war of words between Best and BRA president Anthony Francis.
The outspoken Best took a mighty swipe at the current level of officiating on the island, which he termed as "terrible".
But Francis hit back by accusing Best of having "sour grapes" over Village's 3-1 Martonmere Cup loss to Dandy Town last month in which the BRA chief officiated.
