Morale high ahead of Uganda warm-up

David Hemp

Senior national squad cricketers will get the opportunity to size up the in-form Kenyans when they take on fellow ICC Associate members Canada today in Nairobi.

Kenya, who meet Bermuda next Thursday in the first of three one-day internationals (ODIs), have rounded into peak form since their disappointing debut in the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa last month.

Led by back-to-back centuries from the hard-hitting Thomas Odoyo and disciplined bowling from skipper Steve Tikolo and Jimmy Kamande, the Kenyans have already bagged convincing nine-wicket (Intercontinental Cup) and four-wicket (ODI) victories over the Canadians on home turf.

And they will undoubtedly look to continue in the same vein in the lead up to next week's ODI with Bermuda.

The tourists are facing a hectic schedule today which will see them undergo final net preparations ahead of tomorrow's 50-over warm up against Uganda at the Sir Ali Muslim Cricket Club and also attend a formal reception hosted by the Kenya Cricket Association.

After a delay in London, Bermuda vice-captain David Hemp finally touched down in Kenya yesterday, with team morale in the camp said to be "upbeat" as the Islanders bid to regain their footing following a string of poor results at this level in the post-World Cup era.

"So far everything has been going okay while there haven't been any hiccups," Bermuda manager Lionel Tannock commented.

"The guys have been in the nets everyday and seem to be very confident in their approach."
