Outstanding teachers recognised
Eight teachers at the Berkeley Institute have been rewarded for going above and beyond the call of duty.
The teachers were praised for their outstanding performances during the 2006 to 2007 academic year at a ceremony at the senior school in Pembroke and picked up prizes donated by local hotels and restaurants.
Principal Michelle Simmons said the Outstanding Teacher Recognition Programme was aimed at promoting teacher excellence by rewarding exceptional work.
"The Berkeley Institute is governed by a set of core values that were adopted by the board of governors in May 2002," she said.
"These core values include the promotion of teacher excellence which mandates establishing records of teacher performance and a system of accountability for student learning and requires the establishment of a system of rewards and benefits that recognises the performance of all teachers."
Board chairman Calvin White said: "The Berkeley Institute has a long history of producing graduates of distinction thanks to the commitment and dedication of outstanding teachers like those recognised for the 2006/07 Outstanding Teacher's Award."
Those recognised this year were: Brenton Burgess, Mary Cottle, Keisha Douglas, Rebeka Matthews, Michelle Morris, Rhonda Rawlins, Sandi Wiggan and Lamone Woods.
