Artist Angela Ming Bean has a new show on at the Bermuda Society of Arts.

The works she is exhibiting continues her theme of celebrating people of the African savannah.

The show, entitled "Past and Present", is in the People's Gallery Studio B and will remain up until April 4.

"It is the core of my soul and the essence of my being," said Mrs. Bean of the show, which features some 35 pieces.

"Bermuda's natural beauty and the overall beauty of my Ghanaian brothers and sisters were my inspiration.

"My favourite piece depicts a young African child carrying an even younger child on her back. This child showed no struggle, just strength and endurance — typical of our ancestors."

The artist held her first solo show just over a year ago, although she has painted for some 45 years. She opted to work with oils for this show.

"I chose to use oils because of the way they flow and for the richness of texture," she said.

The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission free. For more information: [tel] 292-3824.
