Shine is taken off All-star matches

The Bermuda Hogges have pulled all their players out of tonight's All-Star games at the National Sports Centre.

All the players from the Island's only professional side have been pulled out of the exhibition matches because they have a game against Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday.

The event was supposed to have featured the Island's top players from the Premier and First Division, but with eight players from both the East and West Premier All-Star line-ups not featuring in the match, there is a fear that the game will have lost its shine.

Laushan Dill, Timmy Figuerido, Jelani Scott, Kevin Richards, Omar Shakir, Aljame Zuill, Kwame Steede and Keishen Bean will not take part in the All-Star spectacle.

"Hogges' players will not be allowed to play," said Hogges' coach Kyle Lightbourne. "We are playing Pittsburgh Riverhounds and that must take priority."

While the players concerned all understand the Hogges' position, there was disappointment that they would not be allowed to find out which region was better.

"I think the All-Star game is a great idea," said PHC defender Kevin Richards.

"While travelling last week, lots of the guys were talking about who was stronger; East or West. Of course I think the West would be able to take the East, but who is to say what will happen."

Devonshire Colts' striker Aljame Zuill was equally disappointed at missing out, but understood the reasons for it.

"I for one wanted to get a fun run out on the pitch, but due to the season being switched all the time, we aren't going to get a chance to play," said Zuill. "It's a shame as most of us worked hard this season and finally get credit through a game which acknowledges your contribution throughout the season."

With spots available on either roster, no additional players have been selected to fill the void left by those unavailable. Prospect United have added two names for the First Division Western All-Stars, including Augusto Arrarte and Defrost Evans.

The two divisions will comprise 36 players each, with clubs submitting a maximum of three to four names to the head coaches who won the respective leagues during the regular season.

The BFA will also host a juggling competition for all clubs with the title of "Juggling Champion of the Year" at stake during the All-Star matches.

Each club from all divisions, will be asked to send one representative to enter the competition.

The BFA will crown a male and female "Juggling Champion of the Year" and award prizes.
