President Nigel, man on the run
NIGEL Freeman (pictured below), president of the Bermuda Chess Association, is also the treasurer of FIDE which makes him a very busy man. Here I was just last week talking about Bobby Miller being a world traveller and to find out that our president is so much needed in Antalya, Turkey this month, Amsterdam, Holland in February, Athens, Greece in March and June, Elista, Russia in July, Mexico City in September, back to Antalya, Turkey in November and Khanty-Mansysk, Siberia, Russia in December.
Man on the run.
At the club, we are having a six-round Bermuda 1st Annual Rapid Cup.
Two rounds were played on Tuesday and two more are due on January 23 and 30.
I told you all so much about Bobby Miller that there was no room in the column for his game. So here it is.
It is Bobby Miller playing white and Farid Munoz from Colombia playing black. Have a good look at diagram 1 and you’ll see that Bobby’s knight is under attack.
But Bobby counterattacked with his move 33. Nxb5 as in diagram 2. Farid moved Nc7 so his king could run to the back rank. However, Bobby had an answer for this as in diagram 3. And in diagram 4 it is checkmate and a big smile for Bobby.
With the 1st Annual Rapid Cup being played every Tuesday night, it’s not to late for you to join in with four rounds due to play.
White: Bobby Miller
Black: Farid Munoz
