A damaged sprinkler system at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital saw parts of the ground floor evacuated this afternoon.
The damage occurred shortly before 2 p.m., as routine maintenance was underway in the Pink Cafe, a spokesperson said.
Persons in areas close to the restaurant were evacuated as a result.
“BHB confirms that about 1.45pm during some routine maintenance in the Pink Cafe a cylinder in the sprinkler system was damaged causing a burst of water from the sprinkler in the ceiling,” said a hospital spokesperson. “No one was injured, but an evacuation of nearby areas on the ground floor was undertaken as a precaution and the fire service called. Work is now underway to carry out repairs."
