Breaking News: Man receives fine, suspended sentence for Police bribery attempt
A man who attempted to bribe a Police officer with $10,000 cash to drop a drug investigation against his friend was handed a suspended sentence for the crime today.
William Benjamin, 44, of Warwick, handed over an envelope full of cash to Detective Kevin Christopher. He did not realise that the officer had informed his superiors of the bribery attempt.
Having been caught red-handed by a sting operation, Benjamin admitted that he had tried to get Detective Christopher to drop an investigation into his friend Kenneth Thompson. Benjamin was handed a two-year suspended sentence by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner today.
Mr. Warner also meted out a $5,000 fine. Thompson, 60, of Sandys also faces charges which will be heard by the Supreme Court. See tomorrow’s edition of The Royal Gazette for the full story.
