Breaking News: Sunk race boat raised from the Great Sound

Back from the bottom: Tim Lynch's J-24 Erin was raised from the depths today

A J24 which sank as it competed in the Bermuda International Invitational Race week was today raised from the Great Sound.

The boat sank yesterday in Race 5 of the J24 Class competition. Erin had been on the last leg of the last race and was flying her spinnaker in a building 30 knot breeze. As the boat rounded up in a massive broach, she put her mast in the water and flooded the cockpit and cabin. The boat did not right herself and just sank. No one was injured.

Chase boats on the course picked up Tim Lynch and his crew of Barry Surbuchen, Steven Musicant, Natalie Luthi and Tiffany Wardman.
