Sailor Rajae rises to the occasion

Continuing his outstanding performances in sailing, 14-year-old CedarBridge student Rajae Woods won the Bermuda Byte National championship on the weekend.

A release from Mobility, Rajae's sponsor, said that this is his first year in the Byte class having graduated from the Optimist division.

Suffering from the flu, Rajae managed back-to-back wins on Friday, the opening day of the races. But veteran Dick Tulloch battled back and had a pair of wins in the third and final race. Despite this, Rajae held on to his first place with nine points followed by Dick with ten. Third place went to Katrina Williams.

"This young man had a sensational season that began capturing the SBC Fall series and which now ends with a similar 1-2 punch," the release said.

Mobility general manager Stanley Wright said the company would be sponsoring him for the 2003/04 year. "He is a fine sailor and a fine young man," he said.
