It?s all about the team says century hero Hemp

Ton-up hero David Hemp says he won?t be looking for personal records when he steps back out at the L.C.DeVilliers Oval this morning, unbeaten on 143 and just 43 runs short of his career-high score.

?I?m not looking at that at all,? insisted the Glamorgan skipper. ?Let?s just take the score as it comes. First things first, let?s just try and bat out to lunch.

?It?s important that we control the first hour, that?s when Holland can get back into this game. If we can bat until lunch and eke out as many runs as we can, I think we might eventually get 120 or 130 ahead which would put us in a good position to possibly go for the win.? Of his marathon stay at the crease, in which he clubbed 20 fours and a six, Hemp added: ?It?s always nice to get a hundred but considering the circumstances today when we were up against it, it was especially nice to get three figures.

?Unfortunately we lost four wickets before lunch after we?d said before we wanted to lose no more than two each session.

?I needed a bit of luck but Saleem (Mukuddem) and I got stuck in after lunch and that set up the day for us.? Coach Gus Logie, meanwhile, was delighted with the team?s efforts.

?I?m very pleased. I always believed a day like today was possible,? he said.

?We saw three quality innings today. Stephen Outerbridge (80) got the ball rolling, he started very positively yesterday . . . a record opening partnership with Kwame (Tucker).

?He helped set the tone and I think everyone who went in afterwards tried to be as positive as possible.

?Unfortunately the middle order stumbled a bit but David and Saleem were great to watch . . . the confidence, the shot selection . . . and I think what they achieved will bring a lot more confidence to all of the other players.?

Of the team?s strategy this morning, Logie agreed the match could still be won.

?I think we have to get ourselves into a position that if we do have to bat again then we need to score some 50 or 60 runs,? he said.

?It?s a pretty flat track though, and it would be asking a lot to bowl a team out on that pitch in less than a day.

?But we can use this game to our advantage, bat as long as possible, maybe one of the players will get a double hundred, and we could get a lead of possibly 160 runs and see what happens.?
