Sims' bad day has silver lining

Bermudian professional golfer Michael Sims last night appeared to have secured his playing privileges for the South American Tour despite a disappointing final round at the Tour qualifying tournament at the Bonaventure Country Club in Florida, USA.

Sims, who failed to break par in any of his four rounds, finished with a three-over 75 yesterday which left him in 21st place overall.

The Tour website had explained that the top 20 finishers or those in the top 25 percent would be given their cards for next season, and the same website confirmed last night that the leading 25 players had earned playing privileges for the 2003 Tour De Las Americas.

However, the 23-year-old will not have been happy with the way he played after posting rounds of 72-78-72-75 for a nine over par total of 297.

He took part in the event to give himself an alternative circuit on which to compete should he fail to advance from US PGA Tour Qualifying School which enters the second stage next week.
