Blazers, Hornets on seek and destroy mission

Tekeyhi Walker (left) of Boulevard and North Village's Kentoine Jennings battle for the ball in a Premier Division clash last year. The growing rivalry between the two clubs resumes tomorrow.

Boulevard Blazers and Dandy Town Hornets embark on a seek and destroy mission tomorrow to avenge pre-season losses to North Village and Somerset Eagles when the 2003/04 league campaign officially kicks off.

Blazers host Village, a team they suffered a 3-2 Martonmere Cup loss to at BAA Field, while Town travel west to White Hill Field where they may find their work cut out for them against an Eagles side anxious to erase last week's heavy defeat at the expense of Devonshire Cougars.

Eagles defeated Town 3-0 in Martonmere action almost three weeks ago.

Fans may also be treated to another intriguing match up at Lord's where new-boys Hamilton Parish come up against an uninspired Devonshire Colts side that is smarting from an 0-3 record thus far.

Parish were promoted at the end of last season after spending nearly a decade in the First Division.

In what also promises to be an interesting contest, Southampton Rangers tackle a rejuvenated Devonshire Cougars side who finally came alive by ambushing Eagles to reach the Martonmere Cup semi-finals last weekend.

Striking duo Raymond Beach and Heys Wolfe seem to have finally sorted matters out up front and Rangers' veteran 'keeper Dwayne (Streaker) Adams could find himself under constant siege between the posts. It will also be interesting to see how former Bermuda skipper Meshach Wade contends coming up against the dynamic duo and his former team.

Turning to First Division action, Somerset Trojans and PHC Zebras begin life in the lower echelons.

Trojans, who lost several key players over the summer months, travel east to Prospect Field to take on last season's FA finalists Prospect (3 p.m.) while Zebras head further east to meet St. George's Colts at Wellington Oval (3 p.m.). Both clubs should not encounter much trouble coming away with the goods.

At Malabar, visiting Wolves can expect a tough baptism from Ireland Rangers who, traditionally, always seem to perform to their best in the early part of the season.

At Lord's, the venue of a double-header, home boys St.David's take on Paget in a match the Islanders should come away with maximum points from.

Social Club, meanwhile, will have to wait another week to kick off their season as the Angle Street club have a bye.
