Former Wolves striker Khari Sharrieff has traded his boots for the coach's notepad.

Sharrieff is set to coach Premier Division newcomers Hamilton Parish during the upcoming season.

Parish returned to the top flight at the end of last season, putting to an end a nearly decade long stay in the First Division.

"I just thought I'd try something new," said Sharrieff yesterday, confirming his new appointment. "It is going to be a whole new challenge for me and we have a long way to go."

Delighted by Sharrieff's arrival is club stalwart and youth coach Leon Raynor.

"Khari is doing a great job," he said. "And I think that our senior programme is in a very good position.

"We had a few good players transfer to the club over the off-season and things seem to be coming together.

"Basically, we've accomplished our goal of reaching the Premier Division but whether we can stay up is another question."

Parish managed to acquire the services of former Wolves forward Vince Minors and Devonshire Cougars' Yuseff Pitt, while according to Raynor, a few more players are said to be heading the club's way after obtaining late transfers.

In addition to survival in the top flight, heavy emphasis, said Raynor, would be placed on the youth squad.

"We want the community to know that there has been a high priority placed on our youth programme this year," said Raynor, who is also bracing himself for a return to Premier soccer.

"Sorting out our senior programme was the first step and now we want to ensure our youth programme is also well organised."

One step towards ensuring this is the appointments of several coaches, Raynor included, to assist coaching the club's various junior teams.

"Irving Romaine is going to be assisting us in various capacities and basically I will also be there to assist," he added. "A few of our senior players have also come forward to help with the coaching, one of them being Clevon Hill.

"We really want to encourage the kids within the community to play a part. We are looking to provide a programme for kids under 13 and down perhaps taking it a step further next year. That is our focus right now."

And all that is required now, said Raynor, is "harmony" among the players themselves and "support" from the entire community.
