Cup Match umps finally paid

St.George?s Cricket Club have agreed to pay an outstanding debt to Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association (BCUA) for providing umpires for last summer?s Cup Match classic at Wellington Oval.

This latest revelation brings to a conclusion an impasse over monies owed which developed when St.George?s officials refused to pay the association the remaining balance for their services over the two-day period until BCUA produced a signed match report from umpires Jeff Pitcher, Lester Harnett and match official Anthony Fubler.

St.George?s Cricket Club president Neil Paynter told yesterday that his club are satisfied having finally received a signed match report from the BCUA, and confirmed that a final payment of $900 will be forthcoming to the association ?in due course?.

?We basically paid them 50 percent after Cup Match, but told them once we obtain the signed document the other payment will be forthcoming,? Paynter added.

?And only just recently they gave us a signed document from Cup Match. And so now that that has been done the payment will be paid in due course.?

BCUA secretary Randy Butler said he is pleased to finally see the matter put to rest.

?We are very pleased to see this matter resolved and hopefully in the future match reports will be signed by both umpires immediately following the match,? he said.

Meanwhile, St.George?s and Somerset Cricket Club officials are scheduled to meet tonight to explore potential new changes to this year?s classic and review last summer?s heated affair in the East End which St.George?s won by 27 runs, the lowest margin of victory since 1959.

Details concerning any new developments stemming from tonight?s meeting between the two Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) chartered members are to be later announced via a joint Press statement, Paynter said.
