Premier wash-out gives St. David's `unfair advantage'

Some of the Island's Premier League cricket clubs are believed to be upset with Bermuda Cricket Board of Control following a decision which will allow defending champions St. David's and Cleveland to take advantage of the bad weather which washed out a full slate of matches on June 16.

St. David's and Cleveland had earlier had their match for that date postponed due to a conflicting event at Lord's.

And they will now be allowed to play it and thus gain ground on other teams whose games were abandoned.

Former BCBC secretary Charlotte Simons confirmed yesterday that all those teams affected by the inclement weather on June 16 have received a single point and none of the games will be rescheduled.

One player, who wished to remain anonymous, said yesterday: "It's just unfair because everybody else has had their match scrapped.

"Nobody benefited from the rain on that day - absolutely nobody! So why should St. David's or Cleveland now have the chance to benefit from it?

"Why don't they (BCBC) keep it all even and give everybody a single point.

"How can the Board reschedule one game but not the other matches. It's just so unjust!

"The game gets rained out and you get a point for no result. If the games were being rescheduled, then St.David's' game could be played but why should they, even though they changed their date before time, still have the opportunity to get maximum points while the other teams don't."

The St. David's game was called off to accommodate a visit to their ground by the Pequot Indians, which attracted a large crowd to the east end club.

"But this isn't all about one club, it's about everybody," complained the player.
