Kyme and Foster on course for showdown

World number 70 Nick Kyme is all set to take on club pro and former world number 69 Patrick Foster in the final of the World Distributors Charity tournament on Sunday.

The two players are joining around 70 others in the annual event at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association headquarters in Devonshire, won last year by teacher Nick Wiffen, who has now left the Island.

Last year?s ladies title was won by Liz Martin who defeated Nick?s mother, Denise Kyme, in the final and the two ladies are once again seeded number one and two respectively.

But the undoubted highlight of the event is the anticipated men?s final clash between Kyme and Foster, who practice together regularly.

For Foster, who arrived earlier this year to replace South African Gary Plumstead, this will be his first tournament on the Island and a chance to show he still has the old magic from his days as a pro.

Foster reached 69 in the rankings and claimed the Czech Open title as well as representing Ireland in numerous international tournaments.

In their regular practice games, both players have taken their turns winning, setting up what should be a battle royale on Sunday evening in the tournament?s climax.

The tournament, only the second of the year after the Fast Forward Freight National Championships, is played in divisions with each player guaranteed three games.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Bermuda Diabetes Association.
