Bermuda trio get Under-19 call up
Three of the Island's top junior cricketers are set to take part in the upcoming 2002 West Indies Under 19 Regional Cricket Tournament.
The event will be held in Jamaica from July 30 to August 25 and although the identities of the prospective trio are currently being withheld by the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control it is understood that Somerset Cricket Club's promising youngster Jacobi Robinson is one of them.
Robinson was also a member of the senior national team that represented the Island during the America's Cup in Argentina in March.
The trio that will represent the Americas regional team will compete against Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados.
Selected players from Argentina, United States, Cayman Islands and Belize will make up the remainder of the squad.
The news comes on the heels of Chris Foggo's participation at the Port Elizabeth Cricket Academy in South Africa, Bailey's Bay all-rounder Stephen Outerbridge's involvement in cricket studies in Grenada and both Foggo and OJ Pitcher's trip to the UK, where they are currently playing in the Surrey County League .
"The West Indies Cricket Board have invited Canada and a team comprised of players from the rest of the Americas region to take part in the tournament," said BCBC president Reggie Pearman. "So they will be part of the Americas regional team along with three representatives from each of the Americas regions."
Former Somerset Cricket Club skipper Wendell White has been given the green light to resume playing.
Having already served a four match suspension for an interview he took part in with the Royal Gazette after he returned with the national team from the competition in Argentina, White had his appeal quashed during a special meeting held on Monday at BCBC offices.
